Initial Assessment:
From the initial assessment we will gather both subjective material from your side and precise objective measurements such as body composition, postural alignment, cardio vascular fitness, range of movement and flexibility. This information together with what you want to achieve from a programme will define exactly how my services are tailored to you.
Subjective Assessment:-
This is really an opportunity for you to ask yourself exactly where it is you are, how you feel about yourself and then exactly what it is you want to achieve from a program. This is essential to move you towards exactly where it is you really want to go from the start and make the most effectlve use of our time possible.
Objective Assessment:-
Body composition
This is the relative and quantative measurements of four elements of what make up your body. Namely: Muscle Mass, Fat, Bone Mass and Water.
Postural Alignment
With a correct or posture your musculo-skeletal system will with more efficiency and effectiveness within your body movement. This will increase ease and freedom of movement and strength potential both in your everyday life and during more rigorous physical performance. Further to this, potential nerve entrapment is avoided, greatly reducing the risk of muscular imbalance and injury.
Muscle Firing Synchronicity
Your body may be performing well but this may not be optimal. For instance, back pain is often caused and aggravated by poor coordination of muscle firing leading to muscular imbalance. This can not only be avoided but your muscles can be trained to function in a more ideal manner, corresponding better with your whole body and resulting in better body tone. This will also steer you clear from the likelihood of such a problem growing into an interference with your overall physical performance.
Cardio-Vascular Fitness
This is often a priority when beginning a fitness program, together with flexibility and core stability very close in behind. The cardio-vascular system is defined as the transportation system, which delivers oxygen and nutrients around the body and takes away carbon-dioxide and waste products.
C/v fitness can be measured by the efficiency of absorption, transportation and utilization of oxygen in the body. With a fitter, more efficient cardio-vascular system it is also nutrition that flows around your body easier, enabling a faster rate of growth and repair in response to specific exercises for you. In short, c/v workouts will not only boost your metabolism and burn calories aiding weight-loss but increased c/v fitness = a much more effective use of your time when working towards your goals.
Range of Movement
This assessment looks at range of joint mobility in both singular joints multiple joints together. From the results we can conclude exactly what are the cause(s) of any such joint restrictions. Such might be muscular adhesions from built-up tension, adaptive shortening of surrounding connective tissue, restriction within joint capsule(s) themselves or myofacia tension.
Flexibility
This focuses specifically on how much flexibility there is in soft tissues between joints, particularly in muscles and connective tissues surrounding joints. Again, commonly this is caused by adaptive shortening of the muscle (eg. spending long hours at a desk) and also lack of stretching after exercise. When a muscle stretches, any build-up of metabolic waste products in the muscles (created by mind/body tension, overuse or muscular exertion or poor posture) will be squeezed and encouraged to pass out of the tissue into the bloodstream to be taken away and disposed of, so keeping flexible will help maintain healthier muscles and a healthier body. Also, relief from tension will allow muscle fibres to move freely within a muscle, which helps with posture and increases freedom of movement.
Where you are
The assessment above will tell us where you are objectively. This is combined with your subjective feelings and forms the complete assessment. Analysis of the assessment is then made together with a programme design suited to you, both of which are sent to you so you are clear about why and how we proceed.
Where you want to go:
Analysis of all the information gathered in an assessment will be made and a plan will be focused around how any goals you might have can be achieved within a realistic time-frame. A copy of the initial assessment analysis and the proposed plan of action, based on a range of methodologies, is then sent to you so you can clearly see and understand how we move from here.
