Winkle Pickers are pointed shoes and boots worn by men and women from the 1950’s onwards. The name derives from the popular seaside tradition of eating periwinkle snails eaten using a pin to extract the snail, referred to as ‘winkling it out’, the name ‘winkle pickers’ derived from this. |
